Abi Washcloth

The Abi Washcloth, textured knitted washcloth, is a beautiful quick make that would make a wonderful last-minute gift or a stocking filler. It is also a fantastic first step if you would like to make the Abi Baby Blanket but are not sure you want to commit to a larger knitting project.

The textured knitted washcloth features popular basketweave stich pattern using knit and purl stitches and a garter stitch border.

Skills required:

To create this textured knitted washcloth you will need to master (or already know) these stitches and techniques:

Long tail cast on (CO), knit stitch (K), purl stitch (P), bind-off (BO), blocking.

Skill level:

Finished measurements:

The final textured knitted washcloth measurements (blocked):

20.5 cm x 20.5 cm (approx. 8” x 8”)

Materials and tools

To get the exact look as on the pictures of my textured knitted washcloth, you will need:

We Crochet Wool of the Andes (100% Peruvian Highland Wool | Worsted weight | 50 g (1.76 oz) = 91 m (110 yds)), (#25975) Crème Brulee 1 skein (A)

5 mm (US size 8) 10” (26.5 cm)  needles or size to obtain the gauge

Tapestry needle

Scissors

You can get your craft supplies here.

Gauge:

The textured knitted washcloth has got blocked gauge as follows:

18 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4” x 4”) over stockinette stitch

The gauge is not essential for this pattern; however it will impact the amount of yarn needed to complete the project

Gauge helps you to understand how the project turns out in terms of the final size. If you would like to achieve the exact size of the final project as in the instructions above, you gauge needs to match exactly to the above.

If you get more stitches and/or rows than stated above using the exact needle size as per instructions, your final project will turn out smaller. Conversely, if you get less stitches and/or rows than stated above using the exact needle size as per instructions, your final project will turn out bigger.

To make adjustments, if you get more stitches and/or rows, you can try using bigger needle size to get closer to the desired size. Conversely, if you get less stitches and/or rows, you can try using smaller needle size to get closer to the desired size.

It may take trial and error to try out a few needle sizes to achieve the exact size.
