Lina Vest

Treat yourself to a bit of yarn luxury with this Tunisian crochet project. The mix of Merino Wool and Silk is the perfect yarn therapy for your hands with a beautiful versatile garment at the end. This crochet vest is perfect for a casual look with jeans and your favourite white shirt, or a well put together office attire.

The Lina Vest is a hip length Tunisian crochet vest with approximately 5” of positive ease that is crocheted flat in pieces (1 front and 1 back panel) from the bottom up and assembled at the end. It has armhole, front V-neck, back neck and shoulder shaping. Armhole and neck ribbing is added in the round at the end.

To get the exact look as on the pictures of my Tunisian crochet vest, you will need:

Gloss (DK weight, 70% Merino Wool, 30% Silk; 123 yards/50g): Kenai 27016, 6 (7, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 12) balls

Hooks:

US I/9 (5.5mm) Tunisian crochet hook (x 2) with 20” cable or size needed to obtain gauge

US J/10 (6.0mm) crochet hook

Notions:

Scissors
Removable Stitch Markers (x2)

Gauge:

15 sts and 12 rows = 4” in ribbing st pattern, blocked

15 sts and 12 rows = 4” over TSS, TKS st pattern, blocked

Stitch Guide:

Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS)

Insert hook from right to left under front vertical bar of the next st, YO, pull up a lp.

Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS)

Insert hook from front to back between front and back vertical bar of next st, YO, pull up a lp.

Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS)

Bring yarn to front of work and hook, insert hook from right to left under front vertical bar of next st, YO, pull up a lp.

End Stitch (ES)

Rotate end of fabric towards yourself, insert the hook under both bars (left and right) of last st from right to left, YO, pull up a lp.

Special Bind-off

*Insert hook from right to left under front vertical bar of next st, YO, pull up a lp and draw through lp on hook (1 lp rem on hook); rep from * across.

Locking Mattress Stitch

Place crochet vest panels RS together with shoulder edges aligned side by side, sts will be worked through the outer lps of each edge.

Thread yarn through the yarn needle and start the seam by inserting needle from left to right through first sts of both panels at bottom.

*Move 1 st up on right side, insert needle from right to left and continue to first st on left side (the one already worked into), move 1 st up on left side, insert needle from left to right and continue to last st worked into on the right side; rep from * to end.

Weave in ends.

Repeat for other shoulder and side seams.

Notes:

Stitch count refers to the number of sts at the end of FwP unless otherwise stated.

The chart is worked flat.

All finishing seaming is done using the Locking Mattress Stitch.

Front and back panels are worked flat, seamed, and ribbing around armholes and neckline is added in the round.
