Textured Bobble Throw

This throw is the ideal accessory to snuggle up under with a cup of tea and a book. It is a wonderful project to add that extra cosy factor to a new home.

Chain, single crochet stitch (sc), foundation single crochet stitch (fsc), bobble stitch (bo), adding fringe, blocking.

Materials and tools

Caron Simply Soft (100% Acrylic | worsted | 170.1 g (6 oz) = 288 m (315 yds)), Country Blue (MC) #9710 6 skeins, Victorian Rose (CC) #9721  4 skeins

Crochet hook size 5.0 mm (H/8)

Blocked Gauge:

14 sc x 15 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in)

Stitch guide

Fsc (foundation single crochet) = ch 2, insert hook in the second ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 1 loop on hook (ch made), yo, pull through 2 loops (sc made), *insert hook in ch of previous st and pull up loop, yo, pull through 1 loop (ch made), yo, pull through 2 loops (sc made); rep from * until required number of fsc have been made.

Bo (bobble) = yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, *yo, insert hook in the same st, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 lps; rep from * 3 times, yo, pull through 6 lps on hook.

Similar medium weight yarns may be substituted; please check gauge.

Beginning ch 1 does not count as stitch.

The throw is worked flat with bobbles on RS. Bobbles repeated every 2,4,6,8,12 and 24 stitches for the width of the throw constitute one section. Three sections in blue are followed by three sections in pink and three sections in blue.

The throw has a border of one row of sc.

Fringe in pink is added through each edge st along the width of the throw.

Instructions

Throw

Row 1 (WS): With MC, fsc 150, turn-150 sts.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn- 150 sc.

Row 3: Rep Row 2.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next 3 st, bo in next st, *sc in next st, bo in next st; rep from * to last 4 sts, sc in next 4 sts, turn.

Row 5-7: Rep Row 2.

Row 8: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, bo in next st, sc in next 2 sts, *bo in next st, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * across, turn.  

Rows 9-11: Rep Row 2.

Row 12: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, bo in next st, sc in next 4 sts, bo in next st, *sc in next 5 sts, bo in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, turn.

Rows 13-15: Rep Row 2.

Row 16: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, bo in next st, sc in next 6 sts, bo in next st, *sc in next 7 sts, bo in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, turn.

Rows 17-19: Rep Row 2.

Row 20: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, bo in next st, sc in next 10 sts, bo in next st, * sc in next 11 sts, bo in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, turn.

Rows 21-23: Rep Row 2.

Row 24: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, bo in next st, sc in next 22 sts, bo in next st, * sc in next 23 sts, bo; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, turn.

Rows 25-27: Rep Row 2.

Rows 28- 75: Rep rows 4-27 two more times changing colour to CC on the last st of Row 75, turn.

Rows 76-79: With CC, Rep Row 2.

Rows 80- 151: Rep Rows 4-27 three more times changing colour to MC on the last st of Row 151 turn.

Rows 152-155: With MC, Rep Row 2.

Rows 156-227: Rep rows 4-27 three more times.

Border:

With MC, sc evenly around edge placing 3 sc in each corner st.

Fasten off.

Fringe

With CC, cut 300 10” strands.

Fold each string in half forming a lp on one end.

RS facing, draw the lp through first st using crochet hook.

Draw both loose ends of the string through the lp creating a knot.

Tighten the knot securing the fringe.

Repeat across top and bottom edge of throw.

Finishing

Weave in ends and block to final measurements.
