Bernadette Blanket

Bernadette Blanket, colourwork knitted blanket, is super bulky knitted blanket that incorporates colour changes using slip stitches. This project grows amazingly fast and the stitch pattern gets rather addictive. Grab yarn in four different colours and let’s make this beautiful blanket!

The blanket size is most suitable for toddler or a small child, however it is easily customisable to smaller or larger size.

Skills required:

To create this beautiful colourwork knitted blanket you will need to master (or already know) these stitches and techniques:

Long tail cast on (CO), knit stitch (K), purl stitch (P), slip X stitches purlwise (slXp), bind-off (BO), blocking.

Skill level:

Finished measurements:

The final colourwork knitted blanket measurements (blocked):

99 cm x 99 cm (approx. 39” x 39”)

Materials and tools:

To get the exact look as on the pictures of my colourwork knitted blanket, you will need:

8 mm (US size 11) circular needles with 30” cable or size to obtain the gauge

Tapestry needle

Scissors

You can get your craft supplies here.

Gauge:

The colourwork knitted blanket has got blocked gauge as follows:

7.5 sts x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4” x 4”) over blanket st pattern

The gauge is not essential for this pattern; however it will impact the amount of yarn needed to complete the project

Gauge helps you to understand how the project turns out in terms of the final size. If you would like to achieve the exact size of the final project as in the instructions above, you gauge needs to match exactly to the above.

If you get more stitches and/or rows than stated above using the exact needle size as per instructions, your final project will turn out smaller. Conversely, if you get less stitches and/or rows than stated above using the exact needle size as per instructions, your final project will turn out bigger.

To make adjustments, if you get more stitches and/or rows, you can try using bigger needle size to get closer to the desired size. Conversely, if you get less stitches and/or rows, you can try using smaller needle size to get closer to the desired size.

It may take trial and error to try out a few needle sizes to achieve the exact size.
