Materials and tools:
To get the exact look as on the pictures of my crochet triangular shawl with stripes, you will need:
Yarn
Rowan Summerlite 4 ply (100% Cotton | fingering | 50 g (1.8 oz) = 175 m (191 yds)),
- Coral Blush (#442) (CC1) &
- Duck Egg (#419) (CC2) 2 balls each
Double ended Tunisian crochet hook size 4.5 mm (US size 7) with cable (at least 50 cm (19.5 in)) or size to obtain the gauge
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Gauge:
Blocked Gauge
20 sts x 12.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4)” over st pattern
Stitch guide:
Tunisian crochet stitches are worked in forward and return pass from right to left, with the number of sts (lps) increasing on the hook during the forward pass and decreasing during the return pass.
Return pass is worked in the same way for all stitches (rows of sts) used in this project as follows (EXCEPT when decreasing on return pass, please see below for details of this technique): 1 ch, *yrh, draw through 2 lps on hook, rep from * until 1 lp on hook.
Return pass with decrease (decRP) is worked in the same way for all stitches (rows of sts) used in this project where indicated as follows: *yrh, draw through 2 lps on hook, rep from * until 1 lp on hook.
Edge stitch:
Right edge stitch- This is the first st and is not usually worked into because there is one lp on the hook left after completing the return pass of the previous row. This one lp corresponds to the first st of the new row.
Notes:
- This crochet triangular shawl with stripes is crocheted using Brioche technique and requires the use of double-ended hook.
- Unlike most Tunisian crochet projects, this shawl is NOT worked with RS always facing, the work is turned after each FP, resulting in a reversible fabric.
- At the end of each FP, slide all lps to the other end of the hook, then change colour before working the RP. Starting with Row 2, you will decrease 1 st at the start of alternating RPs.
- Keep you tension even with special attention to first and last sts in each row as these have the tendency to become disproportionately enlarged.
Instructions:
How to make crochet triangular shawl with stripes
With CC1, chain 130.
Row 1 FP: Insert hook in back bump of 2nd ch from hook, yrh, pul, *insert hook in the next ch, yrh, pul; rep from * across, slide loops to the other end of hook. Turn. 130 loops on hook
Row 1 RP: Make slip knot with CC2, place the loop on hook, draw through 1 loop, *yrh, draw through 2 loops; rep from * to end.
Row 2 FP: *insert hook from front to back under next front horizontal bar, yrh, pul; rep from * to end (last front horizontal bar), slide loops to the other end of hook. Turn.
Row 2 RP: With CC1, decRP.
Row 3 FP: Rep Row 2.129 loops on hook
Row 3 RP: With CC2, Standard RP.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Row 5: Rep Row 3. 128 loops on hook
Rows 6-253: Rep rows 4-5 one hundred and twenty-four times. 4 loops on hook
Row 254 FP: Rep Row 2.
Row 254 RP: With CC1, yrh, draw through all 4 loops on hook.
Fasten off.
Finishing:
Weave in ends and block to final measurements as above.
